Gaillardia Sun Flare
Gaillardias are commonly known as ‘Blanket Flowers’ after the colourful blankets of the Native people of the Americas. These relatives of the sunflower family (Asteraceae) are extremely drought tolerant and tough for those hot and dry areas of the garden and may even thrive in coastal areas or poor soil conditions. Gaillardia ‘Sun Flare’ is a striking new hybrid with Gold fluted flowers with a central red ‘eye’ massed over a compact foliage mound of silvered lance-like leaves. The seed head is rather appealing, with a fuzzy appearance. Flower period is up to 6 months from late Spring through Autumn providing eye-catching summer colour.
Gaillardias are tough and extremely easy care. Soil conditions preferred are moist well drained soil, but they will tolerate drought and even sandy conditions well. Hardy and forgiving of poor growing conditions. Relatively fast to establish.
